GLCC 2023 Year in Review

Greetings GLCC Friends!

As we close out 2023 and welcome in 2024, I would like to reflect on the year of great events and memories with you.

We began 2023 with our Season Opening Session at M1 Concourse.  A very nice winter day and gathering to review the 2023 Event Plan.  Our friend Kevin Byrd joined us and shared stories about his career and held a great Q&A session.

Throughout the year we hosted Cobras and Coffee and Monthly Cruise-in Dinners.  We will continue these activities, with improvements, in 2024.

Our “big” events for 2023 included:

Car and Driver Route Cruise.  Great turnout in May for a cruise through the Car and Driver Route and other stops.

Ford Michigan Proving Grounds Track Day and Tour.  A spectacular day with our friends at MPG!  The MPG team shared with me during and following the event how much they enjoy hosting GLCC!  That sentiment sets the stage for future gatherings at MPG!

Cruise along Lake St Clair, St Clair River and Lake Huron to Lexington.  Great day and turnout.  Beautiful view of the water and great lunch in Lexington.

M1 Garage Tour.  WOW…stunning garages and cars.  And very nice and gracious garage owners who had fun hosting us!  We had a great turnout.  We are already in discussions with the M1 Garage Owner Social Committee to organize a tour for GLCC in 2024!

Snake Pit at the Woodward Dream Cruise.  Gorgeous summer day with over 60 cars in attendance.  Lots of cruising, sharing of stories and camaraderie!

Snakes in the Grass at Canterbury Village.  The tradition to bring Shelby inspired cars together and their clubs (GLCC, SAAC and MCVO) continues!  And this year we finally had more Cobras than Vipers (not that it is a competition)!

There were many other great events…too many to mention each specifically.

The 2023 driving season was in fact memorable.  While you are settling in for the winter season, if you would like to warm your spirits, reminisce about the year and inspire anticipation for 2024, review our Photo Gallery.

In terms of Club Health, we are 116 member families strong.  That means over 230 people are impacted in some shape or form by what we do as a Club.  And we have gained 15 new members in 2023!  Financially we are also in good health.  We have been able to subvent costs of several events this past year using carryover funds from prior years.  And will continue to selectively apply our 2023 funds balance in 2024.

So…what’s in store for 2024?  Your Board and volunteers from the GLCC member base hosted a 2024 Event Planning Season in October.  Lots of great input and ideas brewing for 2024.  I will tease you with that to set anticipation for details to follow early in 2024.

GLCC would not be a Club if it wasn’t for the Members.  So, we thank you for hanging out with us!  The friendships developed are truly cherished!  Our passion for Shelby Cobras brought us together as friends…so our mission is working!

MANY thanks to our Board.  Tony Simari our Treasurer. Bob Harvey our Secretary. Clint Symons our Events Director and Michael Grice our VP. They are each great partners and friends. We have a great Board who are UNITED in our focus to build relationships, socialize and drive our cars.

More to come in 2024!

Jeff
